Mountain road 550, which connects both Húsafell and Thingvellir National Park to Klaki base camp is a rough gravel road suitable ONLY for 4X4 vehicles and is only open during from June to mid-October when the weather allows. This road should absolutely only be attempted by experienced drivers operating 4x4 vehicles.
Otherwise, please take the shuttle from Húsafell if you do not have a 4X4 vehicle to reach Klaki base camp. The shuttle ride takes approximately 40 minutes and costs ISK 2,000 round trip.
