The wonders of the colorful grandeur of Víðgelmir Lava Cave, accessible for the entire family.
Víðgelmir is the largest lava cave in Iceland and one of the largest lava caves in the world. The cave has been a protected site since 1993. Its visual diversity and grandeur is unrivaled. This makes for an unforgettable experience. Just shy of 1,600 meters / 5,250 ft, the cave features dazzling colors and lava formations in this subterranean lava tube.
"The Cave" offers a live tour with a knowledgable guide, which takes about one and a half hours and leads you into the depths of the cave from one chamber to another.
Bear in mind that the cave is consistently chilly regardless of the weather above ground, so it is recommended that all guests bring a warm jacket, hat and gloves. There is no age limit.
Although the floor of the cave itself is quite rocky and uneven in most places, wooden platforms, stairs and railings make for an easy descent and walk through this stunning cave.
Guests are required to arrive 10–15 minutes before the scheduled departure.
The Lava Cave is approximately 15 minute drive from the hotel. Shuttle can be arranged, but it has to be pre-ordered at the hotel at least 24 hour prior the tour. The fee is 4000 ISK.
